Web visitors are hunting for information on products or services - and make quick snap decisions without reading. (We have all done this!)
Website content is more than words on a web page that has been optimized for Search Engine Optimization; website content is also the PDF files for download, sell sheets, referral programs and more. It's the content that is written to gain you more exposure.
Most web pages that are written, is scanned - glanced over. Very little take the time to read!
If that is the case, than why should I worry about Website Content Writing?
Website content writing should work in conjunction with your images, layout, brands - and call to actions.
First write for the "scanners", remember just about 15% of people actually read your entire page. (Hence why visits average 30 seconds).
So, it's important that your message and your company's tone is communicated on the page - but it's also important to have the skill and understanding to not only communicate with your readers.... but with Search Engines too!
Use Familiar Words to Describe: Find search terms that are the most common! (People will use the word "cheap" more so than the word "cost effective"). Where cheap is not a word that you may not want to use to represent your brand, so possibly using terminology such as "low cost" instead.
Don't treat your web visitors like academics who love reading challenging and complicated texts. Don't treat your web visitors like lawyers poring over small print. Don't be wordy. And don't show off your extensive vocabulary.
Instead make your text as simple as possible.
Don't try to be everything to everybody. Know who you are and what you do.
